We left with a large notebook full of paperwork to fill out, and many appointments to set. Since it was 2 weeks before we were to leave for Christmas, our goal was to be ready for our homestudy by the end of the year!

So far, we're pretty much on schedule! We have just a few more papers to fill out, fingerprints to be taken, and physicals to schedule. Our first home visit will be January 7th. This will be the longer of the 2 home visits, where the social worker will create our "Family Portfolio". So we are currently getting our house ready for kids!

One of the biggest challenges has been turning our "office/storage room/junk room" into a kids room. We are still hoping and praying to be approved for little "C", but it is not for sure yet. Somehow we still built the room around getting little "C". :) We finally got all of our office/storage/junk out of the room (threw or gave most of it away, as there is no more room in the rest of our house!) and started finding stuff for "C", that can also be converted to use for other kids if we do not end up with him.

I found a twin bed (head board, foot board, box spring, mattress), dresser, and night stand on Craigslist for $100! Setting those up in the room finally made it look like a Kid's room. I keep finding myself walking by it, and just stopping to look in, excited to finally see a kid's room in our home after all these years.

We are doing a monkey theme in the room. We figured that would be great for "C", but can also be changed for other kids. We are having fun finding monkey accessories, going a little crazy with the decorating. :)

Here are some before pictures (please don't think the rest of my house is this cluttered...haha! this was the extra room, clutter is what it was for) Also please excuse my phone pictures..the camera battery was charging. :) The after pictures will be better!

This was in the midst....the large pile is garbage!

I will post after pictures when it's all done!

Our Story

After struggling with the ups and downs (aka: only downs) of infertility for the past 6 1/2 years, we feel that God is leading us towards foster/adoption.

This past summer we adopted frozen embryos to use in a frozen embryo transfer, which resulted in yet another negative pregnancy test. We are still on the waiting list to adopt more embryos in the future, but have recently turned all of our attention to parenting children who are in need of a loving home.

I will copy the last post of our Embryo Adoption blog for a little background for this decision. this was posted in early December:

Over the last couple months, Chad and I have decided to pursue being foster-to-adopt parents in our county. We are still on the waiting list for more embryos, and will cross that bridge when we get there (we are pretty far down on the list, so it will be quite a while, which is fine anyway...we are not ready to do that again for quite some time). But in the meantime, we feel that God just may have some wonderful blessings for us who are already born, and needing a loving home.

This weekend we are having a 2 day, 20 hour course, then will have our home study. As soon as this process is over, we hope to have our home open to 1-2 children, ages 0-8.

We do have a specific little 4-year-old boy, "C", that we are going to inquire about. He is already "free and legal" to adopt (parental rights have already been terminated, and he is just waiting for a forever family). I don't want to explain in public, but he has some issues that we feel God has given us the ability and desire to work with, and possibly give him the home he needs. We can not officially inquire about him until our home study is approved, but we are praying about him specifically. If he is meant to be our son, God will work it all out!
